Petra Graf & James Edmonds are visual artists from Austria and England, currently based in Berlin. As a duo they create site-specific installations, performances, films and sounds. In their collaborative films they explore everyday phenomena with an intuitive eye, drawing formal connections between spaces, environments and objects with a quiet sensitivity which is both meditative and structured.

Artist Dicky Bahto will make his first appearance in Vienna with a retrospective program spanning over 20 years of work. The program will feature an excerpt from his recent three-hour long collaboration with musician Sarah Davachi, Music for a Bellowing Room, an exercise in resolution, inviting the audience to shift their concentration and perception through gradual changes in sound and image. The piece was originally commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and received its premiere performance in September 2023.

Cinema was the first inescapably mechanical art. But in this post-mechanical age, the traditional apparatus of cinema has all to rapidly been deemed obsolete and primitive. Yet the handing over of industrial machinery to anti-industrial users represents one of the prime creative opportunities for re-appraising and re-interpreting the nature of ourselves as transformed by the age of machines.

Hybridity and the Performative Hand-made: Montreal Independent Cinema

Sonya Stefan presents current Montreal filmmakers and video creators who are exploring hybrid techniques and the hand-made. Each artist defines their own unique process, either by hands-on film, video manipulation or via performance-based techniques such as Hamish Fulton-esque walking trajectories shot along a man-made path leading to a lake. Experimental and animation works make up this program.
