    Opening reception for a solo exhibition of new 16mm film-based works by artist Barron Sherer is Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 4-6 pm ET at Bridge Red Studios, an artists' complex in North Miami that exhibits artwork of strong and developed artists with ties to South Florida, who do not get the exposure their work merits. Sherer’s moving image work generally centers on the détournement and rerouting of archival media and assembling it with materials he creates with legacy filmmaking techniques.

    Embracing the enduring legacy of Jonas Mekas, a visionary who dedicated his life to democratizing film, media, and art, the Monira Foundation and the Jonas Mekas Studio welcomed Chihiro Ito for a six-month-supported Residency and Fellowship in which he worked to support Sebastian Mekas in enhancing the archives and to create new works inspired by that archive. With unwavering commitment, Ito delves into the studio’s rich repository, collaborating with Sebastian Mekas to preserve archival treasures and craft new artistic marvels for ‘Reel to Reel – Jonas Mekas.’ Each week, he immerses himself in the studio’s treasures, infusing them with new life and meaning.‘

    During the workshop ARCHIVAL LANDSCAPES that took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and online throughout 2023 we collected personal stories and family histories, sounds and images and created films using the method of found footage.
