This program celebrates the recent work of Dominic Angerame, a prolific, award-winning filmmaker, educator, programmer, cinephile and former Executive Director of Canyon Cinema. Known for his broad interests, inventiveness, keen observations of social realities and genuine passion for experimental filmmaking, Angerame has made over sixty films that have received critical acclaim and worldwide recognition.

FUGUE STATE COMES TO CINCINNATI MARCH 19-21
PRESENTED BY PAR-PROJECTS, SWELL, AND WAVE POOL

(Cincinnati, Ohio) From March 19th - March 21st, FUGUE STATE brings radical cinema to Cincinnati thanks to SWELL, WAVE POOL, and PAR-Projects, who will be hosting multiple screenings and an art exhibition over the course of three days.  

John Smith’s hugely influential film The Girl Chewing Gum was shown for the first time at the London Filmmakers’ Co-op on the 10th of March 1976. In celebration of the film’s 50th birthday it will be presented at Close-Up on the same date, together with The Man Phoning Mum (2011), Being John Smith (2024) and the world premiere of Smith’s latest video Two Pids (2026).

Both screenings will be introduced by Gareth Evans. John Smith will be in conversation with Stanley Schtinter after the 6pm screening and Erika Balsom after the 8pm screening.
