  • (w)hole Earth online film programme

    By on

(W)hole Earth is a programme dedicated to the displacement and distribution of matter. It constructs and maps a landscape that has calmly formed over millions of years and then disrupts it, observing the possibilities of creation and the impact on those closest to the stone (1). Not forgetting those of us elsewhere, it asks; what is left in the place of material loss? And what happens when we attend to the magnitude of its absence? (2)

  • A body (sur)renders/Un cuerpo (se)rinde

    By on

A Body (sur)renders/Un Cuerpo (se)rinde is a psychophysical (term coined from my theater practice) hybrid film screening & live performance where images, audio and movement are intertwined for the audience to experience it as a single synchronized piece. The films included, shot over the past 4 years, are a testimony of many transitions in my life and where I manifest my identity as trans nonbinary. The performance pieces connect and expand the films to make my personal/artistic process a tangible experience for the audience. (This project was supported, in part, by a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant.)

    By on

Film at Lincoln Center announces New York, 1962–1964: Underground and Experimental Cinema spotlighting the rise of the New American Cinema, running from July 29–August 4.

1962 to 1964 was a pivotal moment in the evolution of American arts and culture, especially in New York City. These years, crucial to the development of Pop, Minimalism, and performance, saw the emergence of a new generation of radical artists, as well as venues that gave their iconoclastic work a home and a context. Movies, meanwhile, were undergoing a transformation of their own: the rise of a truly independent cinema, of works unencumbered by the medium’s aesthetic conventions and commercial imperatives.
