This retrospective traces the long-ranging career of the great William Greaves; filmmaker, producer and activist whose trailblazing work defied racial and artistic barriers across the 20th century.

Through his work in fiction, docs, and experimental films, Greaves educated the masses and challenged the status quo. Born in 1926 Harlem, a true renaissance man, he worked first as an actor and dancer before forming a long-lasting career as a producer, songwriter, and director.

Curated and organised by Zhel Vukicevic and Kerry Baldry, Screamstation Fest presents two programmes exploring the shifting relationship between sound, image, narrative and cinematic form. Ten works that approach cinema as a space for experimentation with image, sound, duration, movement and perception.

The 40th Braunschweig International Film Festival screens 6 experimental short films by Thomas Bartels in a programme called "Im Kreise der Bilder - Circling Images". Bartels blew up 8mm, 16mm and still photographs on his animation stand onto 35mm stock and created poetic trips through various countries and imaginary landscapes - without words but with captivating soundtracks by Wolfgang in der Wiesche. When the programme was completed in 2011, analoge projectors were removed from the cinemas.

  • Fred Worden 16mm retrospective

    By on

Cinema Konsonant and Kino Ponrepo present a two-program screening in remembrance of Fred Worden, who passed away on March 7 this year. Fred Worden (b. 1946, New York), described as "post-1960s pioneer of cinematic optical investigation," spent more than five decades exploring what film preservationist Mark Toscano calls "the outer limits of our vision." Having studied under Pat O'Neill and Robert Nelson at CalArts, he experimented with a wide range of approaches to filmmaking, gradually developing a cinematic language increasingly detached from conventional representation.

    Dates:

Ute Aurand is a German experimental filmmaker, curator, and lecturer. In her films, she captures personal observations with her 16mm Bolex camera: visits with friends, celebrations, the changing of the seasons, intimate moments. The images come and go at their own pace; some linger, while most flit by in rapid succession, and the sound, too, begins and ends abruptly. Despite this fleeting nature, the films radiate a warmth and tranquility that is almost impossible to resist, allowing us to share in small moments of happiness.

    Dates:

    Sunday, October 25, 2026 - 19:00

    Venue:

    Filmrauschpalast - Berlin, Alemania
