L’Âge d’Or weekend is back! Ready for you to discover unconventional, experimental and subversive cinema.
This edition kicks off before the weekend with Edward II (the 1991 Âge d’Or Prize winner) opening the Derek Jarman retrospective this winter, organised with Our Story. The next day, Our Story welcomes performance artist Louise Siffert.
During the weekend, we travel back fifty years to the 5th edition of the EXPRMNTL festival, which first presented U.S. films using the emerging video technology, largely abandoned by the film world afterward. Attendees at this festival included video artists Muriel Olensen and Gérald Minkoff, whose once “lost” works have been preserved by Geneva’s FMAC and carefully restored by ZKM, which will also share its expertise in conserving these pioneering pieces. Finally, we present a selection of Japanese experimental cinema from the 1990s and 2000s from the Japanese festival Image Forum, including the restored graduation film of Oki Hiroyuki.
