In 2025, Pan-Cinema – Curitiba Int’l Exp Film Festival turns its spotlight to Japanese experimental cinema with Focus: Japan, a special program running from July 29 to October 31 at the Cinemateca de Curitiba.
This edition offers an expansive look at the work of acclaimed filmmaker Takashi Makino (Tokyo), who will be present in Curitiba for a series of exclusive screenings — including Brazilian premieres of several of his landmark films.
The showcase also features a curated selection of short films by Tetsuya Maruyama (Yokohama), who will also join in person, alongside guest artists such as:
Hirofumi Nakamoto, Nonoho Suzuki, Rei Hayama, Ryo Ishikawa, Sakura Kondo, Shinya Isobe, Yuka Sato, and Yuri Muraoka.
Now in its third edition, Pan-Cinema has become a vital platform for the promotion and celebration of contemporary experimental cinema in Brazil. Its 2025 program includes film screenings, workshops, masterclasses, and panel discussions — all free of charge and open to the public.
