The Other Film Club will present a screening of Rouzbeh Rashidi’s 2023 experimental film essay, Elpis (2023), followed by a Q&A session moderated by Simin Stine Ramezanali. The event will take place on Monday, 27 January 2025, at 19:00 at Copenhagen’s oldest underground cinema, Husets Biograf, located at Rådhusstræde 13, København 1466.
Elpis is a poetic essay film exploring the effects of the Iran–Iraq War and its enduring trauma and psychological impact. Narrated through the voice of a woman writing a book, the film delves into themes such as war, diaspora, immigration, love, and alienation, employing sensory and experiential techniques. It features lush, ethereal landscapes captured in Estonia, Latvia, Ireland, and Germany. Iraqi-German writer and artist Claudia Basrawi lends her voice to the narration, perfectly complementing the film’s subject matter.

Rouzbeh Rashidi (born in Tehran in 1980) is an Iranian-Irish filmmaker. He has been making films since 2000, the year he founded the Experimental Film Society (EFS) in Tehran. He is also the founder of the EFS Film School, where he has extensively taught poetic and experimental philosophies, approaches, and techniques in Berlin, across Europe, and internationally.
The Other Film Club is a nomadic film club offering audiences the chance to discover films rarely available in local cinemas or on mainstream streaming services.
