Samhain: An evening of analogue folk films

As we welcome summer’s end and enter the darker half of the year, we invite you to bask in the flicker from these 6 short analogue folk films. While some are more overtly folk-coded than others, veering into the territory of folk horror, all embrace the alchemy and tangibility of celluloid film processing. They are independently-produced, often processed by hand, and shot on the amateur formats of Super 8, 16mm and DVCAM. They are not products to be consumed, but deeply personal works to be collectively enjoyed and engaged with.

Featured Work:

  • Diving Wombs / Paola Guzmán Figueroa / FIN / 2024 / 8’ / 16mm & DVCAM
  • Muyas (Inheritance) / Jules Leaño / GER / 2024 / 7’ / 16mm
  • Norðanvindr / Will De Ritter / UK / 2026 / 7’ / Super 8
  • The Stone Key / Will De Ritter / UK / 2024 / 3’ / Super 8
  • Thanatophobia / Ieva Balode & Michael Higgins / LAT / 2022 / 11’ / 16mm
  • Transmutation / Charlie Jimenez / UK / 2026 / 9’ / 16mm
