    A Body (sur)renders/Un Cuerpo (se)rinde is a psychophysical (term coined from my theater practice) hybrid film screening & live performance where images, audio and movement are intertwined for the audience to experience it as a single synchronized piece. The films included, shot over the past 4 years, are a testimony of many transitions in my life and where I manifest my identity as trans nonbinary. The performance pieces connect and expand the films to make my personal/artistic process a tangible experience for the audience. (This project was supported, in part, by a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant.)

    Notes For A Polish Jew (Abraham Ravett, 2012)

    Abraham Ravett was born in Poland in 1947, raised in Israel and emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1955. He holds a B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Filmmaking and Photography and has been an independent filmmaker for the past thirty years. Mr. Ravett received grants for his work from The National Endowment for the Arts, The Artists Foundation Inc, Boston, MA., The Massachusetts Council on the Arts and Humanities, The Japan Foundation, The Hoso Bunka Foundation, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and the National Foundation for Jewish Culture. His films have been screened internationally including the Museam of Modern Art, Anthology Film Archives, The Collective For Living Cinema, N.Y.C., Pacific Film Archives, Berkeley, CA., S.F. Cinematheque, L.A. Forum, Innis Film Society, Toronto, Canada, Image Forum, Tokyo, Japan and Scratch Projection, Paris France, WRO Art Center, Wroclaw, Poland and Ponrepo, Prague, Czech Republic, among others.

    Fool’s Gold: California Roadtrip in an Election Year references the theme of greed and envy told through popular legends and stories of the livelihood and moral fiber of a once wealthy, small, and rural American mining community of Trona California; after a corporate layoff and its ensuing exodus; as told thru interviews with the remaining elderly population. Historic facts spanning the Gold Rush and the 1980’s of Reagan’s presidential years, comments about “consciousness” and visuals of Cain & Abel, Zombies as “insatiable consumers” found in Michael Jackson’s Thriller dance sequence, and desert landscape of the Pinnacles National Monument and Death Valley, display an American mindset that effects war and its economic circles, the housing crisis and global financial change, and the love for consumer products and celebrity
