Harkat is back with the fifth edition of the 16mm film festival, a festival exclusively screenings works done on celluloid film. We welcome all kinds of films from a diverse range of contexts, as long as they are made on celluloid film. That the visuals speak to the medium is what we look for.

Experimental Film and Photochemical Practices
This book assesses the contemporary status of photochemical film practice against a backdrop of technological transition and obsolescence. It argues for the continued relevance of material engagement for opening up alternative ways of seeing and sensing the world. Questioning narratives of replacement and notions of fetishism and nostalgia, the book sketches out the contours of a photochemical renaissance driven by collective passion, creative resistance and artistic reinvention.

Save the Archives Film Festival

After last year's success, the Moving Image Society is hosting its second "Save the Archives" benefit festival! In line with our ongoing programming efforts, we want to provoke discussion about the place of analog media and its preservation in a digital world. We invite submissions of works made on or using "obsolete media" (analog video, small-gauge celluloid film like 8mm and 16mm), found footage works made with any media, and any films that are about or related to archives, preservation, restoration, or provenance.

Process Experimental Film Festival 2017 - Call for entries

Process is the first experimental film festival in The Baltics dedicated to experimental, analog filmmaking. Taking place on the 22nd to 25th of March in Riga, Latvia, the festival will provide four days of intensive program consisting of film screenings, talks, discussions, lectures and expanded cinema performances. We welcome the submission of experimental short films where the use of celluloid has been part of the filmmaking process.
