We are looking for experimental films, and expanded cinema works for the 10th edition of FRACTO. FRACTO is a Berlin-based film festival dedicated to moving-image practices that challenge cinematic form, explore diverse visual languages and imagine new perceptual fields.
FRACTO is an annual film festival held in Berlin since 2017, dedicated to fostering discourse around avant-garde and experimental filmmaking. The ninth edition in 2026 brings together filmmakers from Europe, North America, South America, and Asia. The program unfolds across five curated sections, three focuses, one dedicated section, and an expanded cinema work, comprising 61 films.

As part of this year’s 2025 edition (May 23–25, Berlin), Fracto will be hosting a hands-on workshop on 16mm film and analog experimental practices. Participants will learn to make motion pictures and looping sound with a very economical tool: simple adhesive tape! Unfolding over the course of three mornings, students - armed with film leader, simple adhesive tape and a bucket of water - will learn to “paste” printed matter onto 16mm film frames, each ultimately producing a short loop (approximately ten seconds in length).
FRACTO Experimental Film Encounter announces its seventh edition and invites you to four evenings of film screenings taking place between the 23rd and the 26th of November 2023 at Kunsthaus ACUD, in Berlin Mitte.

As we are setting up the 7th edition of FRACTO Experimental Film Encounter, we would like to remind you that the SUBMISSION CALL for 2023 is now open. We encourage all international filmmakers and artists to tune in and submit their recent works!
NOTA BENE as usual:
- Every filmmaker may submit up to two films - Films must have been completed after the 1st of January, 2022 - All formats are accepted: celluloid (S8, 16MM, 35MM ) or digital - Both short and feature films
FRACTO offers a workshop on experimental film archive practice, held by Emmanuel Lefrant in conversation with Federico Rossin and aimed especially at young artists and the next generation of programmers interested in experimental film production and the management of film archives.
Fracto announces the focus of the 6th edition that will run between May 27-29, 2022 atAcud Kunsthalle, in Berlin. We are also extending the submission deadline for the selection!
