  • The Women's Film Preservation Fund Present's Two Films on Art and Survival: SURIVA and GLASS GARDENS

    SURVIVA, directed by Ariel Dougherty and Carol Clement, a Women’s Film Preservation Fund (WFPF) preservation premiere, and Lisa Crafts' GLASS GARDENS, an earlier WFPF preservation, view the theme of art making and survival from different perspectives: SURVIVA, on a pragmatic level focusing on the day to day concerns of a group of women artists and GLASS GARDENS, showing the power of a woman’s artistic drive, even in the worst of times.  In both films animation figures prominently.

  • Edge of Frame: After Nature (Parts One and Two)

    After Nature is a two-part programme of experimental animation focusing on work engaged with ideas of technology and the environment.  Part One a selection of films respond to man-made waste, disasters and ecological catastrophe. Part Two explores ideas of landscape and technology, and the merging of the real and the virtual, with works combining CG animation, live action and found footage.

  • Independent Frames: Introspection

    ​American animators in the 1970s and 1980s often turned their attention inward, producing personal films that corresponded to the deeply introspective diary filmmakers that formed a key part of the New American Cinema in the previous decade. Representing oneself in a mediated fashion – not only through the moving image but graphically through animation – became particularly important during this period in which more women were active in the field of animation than ever before.

  • The real indies: A close look at orphan films

    The preservation of small, experimental and avant garde films is as urgent as the restoration of commercial cinema classics. These eight personal and imaginative works showcase the creative ways that artists can change the way we see the world around us.

    Special guests include filmmakers Frank and Caroline Mouris, Jeanne Liotta, Bill Morrison, and Lisa Crafts; and archivists/preservationists Pamela Vizner (BB Optics), Heather Linville (Academy Film Archive), Andrew Lampert (Anthology Film Archive), and John Klacsmann (Anthology Film Archive); and violinist Todd Reynolds.
