Through the Looking Glass: The London Film-Makers’ Co-op ‘66-75

In 2025, Refle-x-périmental continues to pay tribute to the work of experimental film cooperatives founded from the 1960s onward, in a spirit of independence, rebellion, and (re)invention of the avant-garde and cinematic thinking. Among these, the London Film-Makers’ Co-operative (LFMC), founded in 1966, stands out as one of the most influential centers of British experimental cinema.

Through a variety of practices and forms - from found footage to animation - the creative gestures of the program reveal the erotic and thanatic impulses of experimental filmmaking. They  question the gaze, the dispositifs, the affects and fluids that circulate between filming and filmed bodies, film and screen, fantasy and pleasure.

In the presence of filmmaker and anthropologist Barbara Glowczewska.

  • Cinédoc's cineclub: Refle-x-périmental #2 - Traits/Portraits

    By on

The second program of Refle-x-périmental is dedicated to cine-portraits. It proposes an exploration of gestures of cinematographic (self)representation based on multiple intersections of the gaze.

From self-portraits (Snow, Unglee) to family (Schefer, Satake), familiar (Mekas, Baillie), or even domestic (Rey) portraits, along with political portraits (Glowczewska, Schefer), these films question the relationship between the filmmakers and their subjects.
