Look What I Found! Negativland + Craig Baldwin

On Saturday January 31, we will be screening a special double feature celebrating the work of found footage luminaries Negativland and Craig Baldwin. Negativland is an experimental music and video group from the Bay area whose radical insistence on free sampling have cast a long shadow on today's video-free-internet, including coining the term "culture-jamming". We will be showing their rarely screened video No Other Possibility, made in collaboration with Landon Spearman.

Nightingale Cinema presents Josh Lewis & Simon Liu
Recent 16mm Films from Negativland Lab

The Nightingale welcomes Josh Lewis & Simon Liu as they interweave a selection of their 16mm films made by hand at Negativland MPL, an artist-run film lab in New York City, overlapping in their affinity for experimental processing and printing techniques. With Lewis working predominantly in direct chemical manipulation of exposed film surfaces, and Liu utilizing a roaming impressionistic camera paired with multiple passes on a contact printer, the program establishes the centrality of the Film Lab both as an epistemic concept and as a practical mode of production. Each film emerges out of a continual and rapid cycle of exposing, processing, projecting, repeat. As such, the films here are rarely the culmination of a process, but rather worthy points extracted from ongoing lines of investigation.

Auto-Cinematic Video Mix Tape
The original, first ever Peripheral Produce release- originally released in 1998 on VHS tape, featured a compilation of twelve experimental films and videos. The new remastered Peripheral Produce Auto-Cinematic Video Mix Tape includes all of those plus other great titles from previously out of print Peripheral Produce tapes, including Truth in Advertising by Negativland, Atlanta by Miranda July, Battles on the Astral Plane by Jon Raymond, Slow Gin Soul Stallion by Animal Charm, Warning by Vanessa Renwick, Love Child by Bryan Konefsky, plus work from the Olympia Film Ranch, Russ Forster, Eric Ostrowski, Scott Arford, Matt McCormick, and Julian Lawrence.
