This screening accompanies the publication of When the Eye Trembles: The Cinema of Paolo Gioli by Jean-Michel Bouhours (bilingual edition), with a foreword by Georges Didi-Huberman, at Light Cone Editions. It is published with the support of the Centre national des arts plastiques (Cnap).

Según el lugar común, en experiencias cercanas a la muerte llegamos a ver las imágenes de nuestra vida proyectadas en el tiempo condensado de un instante. A través de las metáforas del agua y del paseo, las películas de este programa presentan distintas formas de visualizar el flujo de pensamiento y la concatenación de las imágenes en la memoria.

Editions Light Cone is pleased to announce the publication of its first ebook: Jean-Michel Bouhours on Paolo Gioli. Benefitting from the new power of ebooks to integrate video with text, the first title in this new series from Editions Light Cone has been conceived as a dialogue between two important voices in contemporary moving image art.

Collected in a single volume, and illustrated by extracts from Paolo Gioli's films, are essays and notes written over a twenty year period by Jean-Michel Bouhours, currently a curator of Modern Collections at the Musée national d’art moderne - Centre Pompidou in Paris. For many years, Bouhours directed the museum’s film programme and has long been an active member of Light Cone.

Rewriting Film History, Reinventing Film Apparatus

Microscope is very pleased to present Rewriting Film History, Reinventing Film Apparatus a program of 16mm films curated by Enrico Camporesi. The evening includes historical and more recent works by Jean-Michel Bouhours, Werner Nekes, David Wharry, Mary Helena Clark, Ernst Schimdt Jr., and Peter Miller that have rarely, if ever, screened in the US, and coming from the Light Cone Collection (Paris). Enrico Camporesi's description of the show follows: The notion of rewriting film history has constantly haunted moving image production. In the same way, challenging the basic cinematographic apparatus (the screen, the projection, etc.) has been a crucial issue in avant-garde filmmaking. The program seeks to explore the diverse strategies that have been adopted by experimental and avant-garde filmmakers in order to investigate such themes. The films are selected from the collection of Light Cone, the main European distributor for experimental and avant-garde films, and have been rarely (if ever) screened in the United States.
